Irene Hao | Fall 2021
Life is not a game to be played so carelessly.
This is my life, my level weighed carefully.
There is no respawn waiting at home.
If I'm going to live, I'll do it on my own.
I'm not a savior. I'm just a player.
But ladies and gentlemen, please do me a favor:
Don't try to save me. Don't try to play me.
I save me. You can run from me, get away from me.
You can hate me all you want. Just leave me be.
Leave me be, let me be, let me be just me.
And in case you haven't noticed, I don't exist
Just to exist. I mean, you did gasp when I said this
But I am not foolish, neither useless nor clueless.
I'm an opportunist. Catch my drift? Go and move
That joystick right and left, and I'll move that joystick
Left and right. I'll be moving on now. I insist.
I used to be a NPC - now I'm a MC -
Behind the screen. And I couldn't refuse. Lived so many lives
That I didn't choose. Now to break the glass wall, the fourth wall.
New highscore. Make something of myself once and for all.
You're paralyzed, eyes wide, as my fist strikes you.
You're still alive, you parasite. We are so through.
This world had been fine until you had intrude.
All the more reason to escape from you.
Don't you get it? Don't forget this:
I am not something to climb over
If I'm going to climb, it'll be over you.
Now I'm part of the people.
No longer a puppet. We are equals.
