Butterflies stay in a cocoon
For approximately 5-12 days
But for me it felt longer
Trapped inside this cocoon
No way out
Dark and scary
No telling when I would be set free

It takes 28-41 days for skin to renew
But I have been scrubbing him off for five years
After 21 days, butterflies are set free
They are no longer trapped
No longer mute

It took me five years to be set free
From the darkness
From him
And now, I am no longer mute
