A new pharology

Alex DePinho | Spring 2024

lighthouse of alexandria, 43 ce
tonight i dream of her
throat as the tower:
crumbling.
the only difference between
a panopticon & a lighthouse
is where you are trapped in it
all spinning lights in maritime dusk
all moonbright eyes searching like
the owlet
cranes its
soft head
and then burning. one last flash
to limn the water’s surface, glance
upon the keels of ships
shorebound: an effigy
i am wakened
as the world closes
her one good eye over me.
