lullaby
lullaby by arina medvedeva
hold me like the moon by isabelle buneo
Iām certain the moon talks to me
Every night before bed.
I lay myself down
Alone
In my bed best fit for two
And I see her waiting for me out the window.
I turn onto my side
And look at her.
Listening.
Sometimes she coddles me.
Her light washes away the burdens of heartbreak
As she whispers me into peaceful nothingness.
Sometimes she scolds me.
I curl into a ball
Knowing what's coming
And she ridicules my audacity to feel so small.
Every night the moon talks to me
In whispers
In yells
In silence
And every night I talk back.
Sometimes out loud
Always in my mind.
And I wonder if I sing her to sleep too.
Can she hear me?
Can you hear me?
Silence.
