We’re both very fascinated by magical and cosmic themes in art and writing. As a result of this shared interest in all things mystical, we wanted to instill an idea of community and the significance of togetherness on a celestial scale. In a way, then, our piece “Caelum” is a testimony to companionship between friends and lovers (not that there’s much of a difference!). The sun and moon’s endless faith in one another is contained and represented simply through the security of a sonnet form as well as through the sparkling visual effect of their embrace.

Maia Nuñez (she/her) is majoring in English while also pursuing a minor in French. She is a junior at FCLC, expecting to graduate in the spring of 2022. Maia mainly writes poems (currently dabbling in the limerick form) and little bits of prose dealing in matters of identity, sensuality, and magic. She is also the Secretary for The Comma, FCLC’s literary arts publication, and is honored to surround herself with such talented individuals. When not writing silly little things to elucidate her existence, Maia could be found deifying oatmeal, making inane Spotify playlists, and doing crossword puzzles.
